Tesco top of grocery commercial websites
Tesco has emerged as the leader when it comes to grocery online retailing, according to new web stats from Keynote Systems.
The firm measured the performance of the main UK grocery websites, specifically their site availability and how long it took for transaction processing to take place.
Tesco was the clear leader, with its website available to customers for online sales 99.47 per cent of the time. It was followed by Asda, with 99.27 per cent availability, then Sainsbury's, with 98.952 per cent.
However, when it came to measuring how long it takes for grocery items to be loaded into the customer's shopping basket, it was Ocada that led the way, taking on average 5.23 seconds.
Tesco's website took 5.694 seconds, making it still the overall winner, while Asda's trailed far behind with a slow 31.17 second load time.
Vice president of Keynote Systems Haran Sold said: "This highlights the problem many customers face when trying to organise Christmas online. Christmas is a time when most web sites peak and traffic increases dramatically.
"Load testing and preparation for peak traffic is usually done during the summer but it seems some retail sites underestimated the increasing reliance on web commerce and are now falling behind."
