Google unveils customised group homepages
Google has released a new feature which allows organisations to create personalised home pages for their group members.
The personalised home pages will be used as an access point for the Google Apps suite of web-based business software aimed at small firms which was launched by the company in August.
Organisations can choose to personalise the pages with their own logos, colours and content, such as organisation news and important links. The pages will also contain a Google search box.
"With this, organisations can provide a dynamic and unique-to-you central access point for essential information," wrote product manager of Google Apps for Your Domain, Mike Horowitz, in the company's blog.
"Setting it up is quick and easy -- much like setting up a Google personalised homepage -- but with custom logos, colours and your organisation's own content, in addition to modules from our gadget library.
"Then each of your users can take your organisation's default page and change it up so it's just right for them."
Thousands of schools and businesses have signed up for the Apps service already, according to Google, many of which are expected to take advantage of the personalised homepage feature.
