Firms 'should raise search engine profile'
Businesses that want to reap the most benefits of having a website have been advised to promote themselves through search engines.
JP Gordon, business development manager at e-lick, stated that a search engine optimisation campaign could help drive more traffic to a firm's website.
Writing for Mad.co.uk, he said that raising the site's online profile would result in more visitors making purchases and possibly returning to the site again at a later date.
However, he added that the nature of the site itself was also important as its branding needed to fit with the company's identity while remaining functional and easy to use.
Mr Gordon suggested that companies work with web designers which specialise in bespoke online store.
This, he said, would help ensure that the designer was producing e-commerce services that were right for a particular business.
According to a study by Jupiter Research, more than half of the biggest advertisers in the US plan to double their spending on search engine marketing this year.
The firm also found that 28 per cent of major firms that advertise on a large scale plan to increase spending on search engine marketing by up to a quarter.
