E-retail 'driven by men'
The growth of online shopping is being driven by men who can't be bothered to go out to the shops to buy what they need, according to a new report.
The Future of Retail Property report from the British Council of Shopping Centres revealed that men found it much more convenient and cost efficient to shop on the internet than in the shopping centre and thought that in the future they would do more of their shopping through online retailers.
Men also took a 'hunter' approach to online shopping, the report claimed, and were more likely to spend time using the internet to research products and services and look for the best prices.
The report stated: "The 'hunter' approach to shopping persists, as they have a specific idea of what they want to buy and do so online."
Women, however, had a completely different attitude towards internet shopping.
"They were certainly not planning to do more shopping online nor did they think it more convenient to shop online than in shopping places," the report noted.
A recent study from the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) estimated that as many as 25 million Britons would choose online shopping over braving Christmas shopping queues this festive season.
