"Social netshopping" service unveiled

A new "social netshopping" service claims to combine shopping, social networking and community-based item sharing, utilising "the full power of web 2.0".

Buddy Shopping allows internet shoppers to shop with their friends and family, by displaying their own and their buddy's browser windows in real-time.

When commercial websites are visited by users, Buddy Shopping's technology automatically "scrapes" each purchasable item, which allows users to store, categorise and share items of interest in searchable closets, the firm said.

Users can search for similar or identical objects in buddies' closets and access user reviews by starting spontaneous co-shopping sessions with experts and other people who already own the product.

An integrated instant messaging facility allows users to share opinions on products. Additionally, users can form private or public shopping communities organised around common shopping interests.

"As more and more consumers exert their purchasing power online, the main challenge is how to convert shoppers into buyers," said Todd Kelly, Buddy Shopping CEO.

"Buddy Shopping solves this problem by providing users with immediate access to trusted friends and family at precisely the point where they need their purchasing decisions validated."

E-retailers would benefit from the "rich media advertising tools" provided by the service, the firm said, including integrated clickable video and one-to-many product casting.
