Jonathan Fink (Momentum): On your site, you describe yourselves as "multimedia specialists". Could you describe what that involves?

Ben Hutchins (Hutchhouse): Basically multimedia covers anything that will be seen on the screen, from web design through to TV platforms. That includes filming, but very little of what we film is for television broadcasting, it's mostly for use on the web, or as part of a CD ROM.

A good example of a multimedia angle is that we designed a website for a major enterprise client, and then adapted the design for use as a TV-based interface.

Jonathan Fink (Momentum): What kind of clients do you work with? What size businesses? SME, mid, enterprise?

John Stiles (Hutchhouse): We work for all shapes and sizes of client. The majority of our work is with enterprise customers, BT, Expedia, Yell, the AA. But we also have a long list of local small and medium sized customers such as The Crab at Chieveley and CMS Industries in Grove, Oxfordshire.

Jonathan Fink (Momentum): How do you attract and win business from larger enterprise clients?

John Stiles (Hutchhouse): Design at enterprise level is a different challenge. There is a lot more emphasis on brand guidelines, and an absolute need to comply with their identity and values. Having worked with some of the world's largest brands and demonstrated our abilty to be creative within the constraints of the brand, we are confident at approaching large clients and able to instill confidence in them even before we start working.

Our creative director, Ben's strength is that he can adapt his design ideas to adhere to brand guidelines, but he also has the flair to come up with wildly creative stuff when a brand needs to be designed from the ground up. Very few can do both.

Jonathan Fink (Momentum): Do you get involved with the full process (i.e., coding, hosting etc)?

John Stiles (Hutchhouse): Hutchhouse can carry out the full range of creative web services, but we do also do hands-on coding to build templates and develop sites, and we do offer hosting - but only as a complementary service for own own clients.

Jonathan Fink (Momentum): Brand is a word that is used in many different ways. What is the essence of brand for you?

Ben Hutchins (Hutchhouse): It's the persona and identity that's projected to the audience.

Jonathan Fink (Momentum): How would you approach the design of a new brand?

Ben Hutchins (Hutchhouse): People are a lot more brand aware now than in the past. People brand themselves now, with the advent of social networking people have realised that they are cultivating their own brands by the development of their online personas. This makes them much more brand aware and more articulate about describing their corporate identity and the feeling they want to inspire.
