I would like to start a newsletter, how do I go about this?
There are three components of regular newsletter activities that need to be considered: the technical aspect such as encoding into html emails and delivery, producing content on a regular basis and the monitoring of response to the campaign, such as open rates and enquiries generated.
The first step is to evaluate internal resources and appoint someone who is responsible for the activity as it's very easy to let a newsletter slip if key personnel are busy. The next is to identify the newsletter delivery system that has all of the required features (look at the reporting aspect; such as data about open rates to be able to monitor the success of the campaign). Once the basic system is set up, the activity requires the building of a list, and ensuring that everyone on that list has opted-in to receiving communications from your company. Planning out content a few months in advance is also a good idea so that themes can be tied into promotional offers.
