How do I know whether my PPC campaign is really being successful?
Many businesses use PPC (pay per click) campaigns to increase traffic to their site, and this technique can be very successful in the short term (or however long you are willing to keep the payments up). However, you need to be sure that the amount you are paying for each click through to your site is actually cost effective. It is easy to do this, but only if you are actually gathering the correct kind of data.
The most important thing you need to ensure is that your Google Analytics is correctly integrated with Google AdWords. If they remained unconnected, you will have no idea what the people who click on your PPC ads are actually doing once they are on your site.
Secondly, if you have a very specific reason behind the campaign (instead of just getting more visitors in general), you need to have goals correctly set up in Analytics. If your campaign is designed to get more people to your site and signed up to a newsletter, for example, set up the Google Analytics goal tracking to show you whether the site visitors who actually sign up are coming from your PPC ads or non-paid sources (such as organic search results).
